Teachers College-next stepping stone
The dream I had had for as long as I could remember was one step closer as I moved into the residence at the college. It was a challenging new world but the Lord had gone before me to prepare the way. I didn't know any of the girls but when I got to my room, I found I had a Christian roommate in Pearl Muir from Oxbow Sask,, We got along well. I made quite a few new friends and when possible went to the Gospel Mennonite Church. A lot of weekends I was able to get a ride home which helped me get used to this life.
I had a job in the dining room which helped offset my expenses at school. This is where I met Elma Brandt and she became a friend whom I still stay in touch with.
What really stands out for me was that at this time of being away from home, from all that was familiar, I learnt what a personal relationship with Jesus really looked like. I could go to Him anytime and I felt He was there. The time that stands out for me was when I has a personal crisis and I was really praying about this. This proved to me that he is concerned for each of us individually. I was sure Jesus was standing right behind me when I heard his voice so clearly, No, that is not for you. There was no doubt in my mind what I needed to do.
We hadn't learnt a lot up to this point about what a personal relationship was to look like and this surely solidified my faith.
This assured me that He hears and is concerned about our hurts and feelings. He knew just what I needed. O how this helped me grow spiritually and know that He will guide me when I look to Him.
Teachers Christian Fellowship was a good outlet where I met
other Christians at the college. this was so important for me at this time.
This year prepared me for the years of teaching and life in general. I am thankful to the Lord for his Holy Spirit that guides us as we come to the Lord in times of need.
