Our Wedding,July 23,1966

After our engagement in April,a lot of planning went into getting ready for that most important day.

My sister Irma was my bridesmaid,(actually she had told George in fun before we were even dating that she would be the bridesmaid at his wedding). She had a turquoise blue dress and had fun getting ready. I bought my dress while I was still in Winnipeg ad red roses as my bouquet.

George had Claude Unrau as his bestman. They had spent a lot of time together in their youth.

There as a shower for me at the Bible school in Winnipeg and another one at my parents home. what a blessing these were to us.

The weeding day started out with a shower of rain but by the time we left for the church the sun was shining and we had a beautiful day.The wedding was in the MacGregor EMC and then the reception in the MacGregor Hall. George and I walked down the aisle together and we were the first couple to exchange wedding rings at our ceremony.(up until now the church had frowned upon wearing any form of jewelry).

At the time it was custom to open our gifts after the reception and a short program. Then many for relatives and friends came to Mom and Dad`s house where coffee and snacks were served and often the youth played games. Here I changed into a going away outfit and we left around 8PM. and headed for Brandon where we had a motel room for the night.

Next morning after attending a worship service we headed south to the Black Hills for our honeymoon. We had a lovely week and enjoyed our time there.

Coming home,we loaded all my things and went to our to our farm south of MacGregor. George was working with his brothers and they were in the middle of haying so George had no time to waste but he went to work right away.

We were living with his Mom and I had to settle our things in the house and star housekeeping as his Mom wasn`t all that well. It was a challenge but the Lord used this time to take rough edges of my character.

Having been used to travelling, having my own car and being my own boss. It certainly was different now. George was used to going to town once a week. At times I felt like Moses in the wilderness. When he thought he was ready to serve and help his fellowmen , the Lord brought him to the desert for another 40 years . The Lord began preparing us for serving Him in the years ahead. The Lord was there and taught me many things in the months ahead.

That was the begining of our life on the farm and we looked ahead to what the Lord had in store for us.
