Rodgers Hill
Tobogganing on the first hill
Tobogganing has been such a big part of our winters for many years. It was a lot of work but we had so many blessings as we met so many wonderful people.
When George was teaching Sunday School he would the boys over for the afternoon and they would toboggan or ski on the hill beside the road coming into our yard. They enjoyed it so much that they'd want to come again, bringing more people. Gradually more and more people started coming. It got to the point where we couldn't leave the hill unsupervised. (They had to walk back up or sometimes they used skidoos to take them up the hill.) Then we started spending Sunday afternoons at the hill. A shelter was built and a stove installed.
In the mean time we had started Life Springs Retreat Centre and we started planning to move the hill to that site. We got some donations and help and
we were able to move the tobogganing hill.
Next a canteen and warming shack was built and the road in improved. Attendance kept growing and we enjoyed getting to know so many people from all over the province.
With growth came challenges and we saw the need for change. So in 2000 Carberry Bible Camp took over the property and changed their name to Valley View Bible Camp.
They have continued to make improvements and it has become a vital part of the ministry there. We could see that as we let go of it God blessed abundantly. They have had as many as 9000 people in a season depending on the weather.
We feel so rewarded to see what has become of such a small beginning. God has indeed blessed beyond what we could have ever imagined.
